Psychotherapy and Hypnosis for Enhancing Neuroplastic Changes
Sunday 15th November 2015, Islington, London
with Dr Assen Alladin
Clinical Psychologist/Adjunct Associate Professor
Department of Psychiatry, Calgary University Medical School
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Although the brain is an amazing organ, capable of continual growth and adaptation, it is vulnerable to a wide array of unadaptive patterning. Fortunately many of the brain’s shortcomings can be counterbalanced by skilled psychotherapies including mindfulness and hypnosis in the context of a caring relationship. In the past 20 years studies have demonstrated clearly that psychological interventions and particularly hypnosis could modify brain function across a wide range of psychopathological conditions. This workshop will:
- Review recent developments in neuroscience and neuroplasticity.
- Provide an overview of recent developments in the psychobiological understanding and treatment of emotional disorders.
- Describe in detail various therapeutic techniques for enhancing neuroplastic changes in anxiety, depression, OCD, Panic Disorder, and PTSD.
- Discuss various strategies including mindfulness and hypnosis that clients can use to disrupt the formation of unadaptive neuro-circuitries.
