Psychotherapy for Enhancing Neuroplastic Changes

Sunday 15th November 2015, London

with Dr Assen Alladin
Clinical Psychologist/Adjunct Associate Professor
Department of Psychiatry, Calgary University Medical School
Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Although the brain is an amazing organ, capable of continual growth and adaptation, it is vulnerable to a wide array of unadaptive patterning. Fortunately many of the brain’s shortcomings can be counterbalanced by skilled psychotherapies in the context of a caring relationship. In the past 20 years studies have demonstrated clearly that psychological interventions could modify brain function across a wide range of psychopathological conditions. This workshop will:

  1. Review recent developments in neuroscience and neuroplasticity.
  2. Provide an overview of recent developments in the psychobiological understanding and treatment of emotional disorders.
  3. Describe in detail various therapeutic techniques for enhancing neuroplastic changes in anxiety, depression, OCD, Panic Disorder, and PTSD.
  4. Discuss various strategies that clients can use to disrupt the formation of unadaptive neuro-circuitries.
