with Donald Meichenbaum PhD

First broadcast: Friday April 30th 2021, 10am to 5:30pm GMT

We are delighted to offer the recording of this workshop from one of the most eminent living psychologists, Dr Donald Meichenbaum PhD.

This is now available as an Online Workshop to purchase for £115. See below for more details.

Workshop description

In the aftermath of experiencing traumatic and victimizing experiences most individuals are impacted, but some 75 % go onto evidence resilience and the capacity to handle ongoing adversities. In contrast, some 25 % get stuck and experience adjustment challenges and a variety of co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

In this presentation, Dr Meichenbaum will discuss what distinguishes these two groups and the treatment implications.

He will provide a Case Conceptualisation Model of risk and protective factors that informs treatment decision-making, and will review The Core Tasks of therapy that contribute to lasting change.  A special section will focus on how psychotherapy for PTSD can be enhanced by employing such interventions as Constructive Narrative procedures, Hypnosis, Mindfulness and  Stress Inoculation Training.

Dr Meichenbaum will present how to provide integrated treatment for such co-occurring disorders such as Substance Abuse, Depression and Suicidality, Prolonged and Complicated Grief  – and the very important elements of how to integrate spirituality and psychotherapy will also be addressed.

Building in and bolstering resilience is a key focus of Dr Meichenbaums' approach and considerations of developing and strengthening resilience across all domains will be considered, in addition the important question of how we can build resilience in ourselves as therapists working with trauma and in our schools and communities will be addressed.

Finally, “how to spot HYPE in the field of psychotherapy: a 19 item checklist” will be presented.

Participants will receive a detailed handout and a to-do list of therapeutic procedures that they can use immediately.

Dr Meichenbaum is extremely generous with his knowledge and sharing his materials. We can assure you there will enough in this one day workshop to unpack and implement for many years!

What people have to say about the workshop

“This was one of the best CPD courses I have attended. Donald's congruence, experience and expertise were evident throughout the day. He ensured his ideas were practical and accessible and showed great generosity of spirit in providing a wealth of material as well as links to a multitude of free resources. I especially valued his emphasis on the therapeutic relationship in all forms of therapy and his own humility was very much in evidence. Thank you for an excellent day.”

“Wonderful webinar with Donald Meichenbaum – who put the ‘C' in CBT . Once again UK College is ‘on point' – by helping to progress the best of evidence based practice with the endorsement of a legend in the psychotherapy field. Engaging funny and turbo charged; cutting through the hype and promoting best practise for the benefit of practitioners and clients alike. Good job.”

― Caroline Brown, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist, carolinebrowntherapy.com

“A fantastic learning day delivered by one of the true greats in the Psychotherapy field, Donald Meichenbaum. Totally up to date with today's issues and he remains as relevant today as when he was instrumental in the birth of CBT. It was both captivating and motivating and clearly demonstrated where the College is really heading with the obvious synergy and personal alignment of the College's Principal, Mark, and Donald.”
