Watch this short video by Mark Davis, webinar host and
director of the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy:

Hypnosis - myth or magic?
Valid therapeutic method or fringe "woo" therapy?

Hypnosis captures our imagination and suggests that more powerful deeper therapeutic change could be possible.

But it has a muddy reputation - with stage hypnotists and overblown therapeutic claims.
What's the real story?
Is there research into hypnosis? What does it say?
Can we rescue hypnosis from being on the fringe and bring back into the centre of a modern therapeutic approach?

Are these questions holding you back?

Does hypnosis actually work?
How does it work?

How can we use hypnosis in therapy?

How can I find a professional training course?

Hypnosis: Effective therapy
or "Snake Oil"

Worth billions, the hypnotherapy industry is rife with myths, hype and confusion. From misleading television and movies, and trainers trying to sell you on how easy it is to make money hypnotising people - it's a truly minefield!

But what is hypnosis, really?
Does it involve spinning a pendant in front of your client? Or mind-control? Trance states? Accessing the unconscious mind?
Or is it a research-based, effective way for people to take back control and experience significant improvements in chronic pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD and bowel disorders?

Allow us to clear up the confusion and debunk the myths that surround hypnosis!

Let us walk you through the scientific research so you can know what hypnosis is, how it works and what it can be effective for.

In this webinar we will cut through the promotional hype, show you what the research says about hypnosis - and here's the shocker - that the research conflicts with what is taught on most training courses!

We’ll introduce you to an evidence-based and accredited practitioner training that will enable you to have your own fully insured, legal therapy practice within 6 months.

Or those of you who are already therapists we'll show you why you might want to add hypnosis to your therapy approach and how to do it.

Next webinar: Date to be confirmed

A unique, 2-hour session reviewing the research, debunking myths, showing you a modern evidence-based approach to hypnosis and it's therapeutic application in Hypno-CBT®
Webinar will be available on replay if you can't make this time slot.

What makes our Training different?

NO 'HOCUS POCUS'!

Everything we teach on the Hypno-CBT® Diploma is all evidence-based and science-aligned. Knowing your therapy practice is based on an extensive research base will give you a solid foundation and strong confidence even as a novice.

INTEGRATION WITH CBT  (and mindfulness!)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is know as the most effective psychotherapy. Many studies have demonstrated its efficacy increases with the addition of hypnosis. (1)

NO TRANCE!

Nearly every hypnotherapy training programme teaches that hypnosis is a “trance state” - but the research does not support this myth! Learn about the modern “non-trance” model of hypnosis that is supported by research AND integrates with CBT and mindfulness.

QUALIFY WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD

The Diploma is an entirely web-based training that you can take anywhere in the world. With live support and practice sessions, you get to choose your training format to suit your schedule. Plus learn how to do therapy online!

HIGHLY EXPERIENTIAL

The Diploma is comprehensive and academically strong, but most importantly it is vocationally focused and highly practical. 50% of the training is experiencing and trying out the huge range of therapeutic tools that you’ll learn to use to help your clients.

AMAZING SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY

Once you sign up you can become a member of our active and supportive professional community – so you get the ongoing support with your new business to achieve the career you envision.

This is a full practitioner training.

With the Diploma course, you can be confident that you will have the accreditation required to practice as a professional.
PLUS the therapeutic skills, knowledge and confidence
- all based on fundamental scientific principles of growth and healing.

EXISTING THERAPISTS?
About 35% of our attendees are already therapists, psychologists, CBT therapists, coaches or psychiatrists. The course is a unique training experience that "joins the dots" and fills in what is missing so much "talking therapy".

Next webinar: Date to be confirmed

The 2-hour session will answer the following questions:

Is hypnotherapy really credible as a therapeutic approach?

When new to hypnotherapy, it’s easy to be confused by all of the mystical and murky associations around hypnosis. Not to mention the grandiose claims of the hundreds of “world-famous” celebrity hypnotherapists!

In the webinar we’ll be discussing the most common misconceptions about hypnosis – and why it’s so important to question them, look to the science and use more research-informed ways of talking about hypnosis.

We’re passionate about cutting through the pop psychology and pseudoscience and educating people – both therapists and clients – in our modern, research-based approach to hypnotherapy.

How does the training work?

You might love the idea of a short, concise training that quickly provides you with the ability to start using the Hypno-CBT® approach.
But you might be thinking…how is it possible to fully qualify in such a short time?

And can the training really provide all the accreditation, skills, systems, tools for growth, and community support for you to make it work as a therapist?

The answer is YES! And in the webinar we will show you how, step by step.

We will also cover the Diploma training format options, and the flexibility we’ve designed into this programme - that allows you take it anywhere in the world.

Can I add this Hypno-CBT® approach to my existing therapy business?

Adding hypnosis to your existing therapy practice can certainly help you clients achieve potentially deeper and faster - AND more long lasting change.

You can reach new markets and stand out against other therapists - and also help with many conditions for which hypnosis has a strong efficacy

  • Hypnosis for Pain management
  • Using hypnosis to support stress, trauma and resilience work
  • Gut focused hypnotherapy for IBS
  • Smoking Cessation

And so much more.

What makes Hypno-CBT® different?

We’ll cover basic, old school hypnotherapy and why the refined, modern model of Hypno-CBT® can create more effective change and reach more people. You'll learn how the idea of "trance" is not supported by research and creates a major obstacle in therapeutic work. ("Trance" is part of the hocus-pocus mythology around hypnosis that allows training schools to charge LOTS of money for courses that have little substance.)

The integration of hypnosis, CBT and mindfulness allows therapists to have enormous skill and flexibility in the way they integrate hypnosis with other techniques.

There's strong similarities and key differences between hypnosis and meditation - and much use of "focused attention"

And remember hypnosis is not a talking therapy - it is "experiential" - and it allows us as therapists to create many new  powerful positive experiences for clients - right in the therapy room.

You’ll learn why the integration of hypnosis and CBT (widely acknowledged as the most effective psychotherapy approach) is so important. We will show you the research demonstrating that adding hypnosis to CBT improves results over CBT alone.

You can literally “turbo-charge” CBT by adding hypnosis!

And...
Meet successful therapists who took the leap and made it!

This is your chance to hear directly from someone who has recently walked the path.

Our guest speaker was just like you interested and curious about learning hypnosis and hypnotherapy but not sure if it was an entirely valid therapy to learn.

In our webinar, you’ll hear from them exactly how the Diploma changed their life. Here’s what you will learn:

Why did they decide to add hypnosis and hypnotherapy to their therapy practice and why did they choose the Hypno-CBT® Diploma rather than another training course?
How did they integrate and add this new approach to their existing work?
How has the Hypno-CBT® impacting their revenues as therapist? (the big question!)
What’s a typical day and week like for a hypnotherapist?
What is the single most important thing in building and maintaining a career in hypnotherapy?

Question:
Aren't all hypnotherapy courses pretty much the same?

Answer:  NO!

Many training courses are "not fit for purpose"
and peddle hype and pseudoscience.

QUIZ
SPOT THE HYPE!
Does any of the following sound familiar?

"Rapid transformation!"
"Transform your clients in one session!"
"New method that is taking the world by storm!"

These are familiar promotional claims
that regularly appear in the world of hypnotherapy training.

"morally wrong"

That's what Professor Paul Salkovskis said about a currently very popular "rapid" hypnotherapy training.

Note this "rapid therapy" training costs nearly three times as much as most training courses!

In a recent article in The Sunday Times Professor Paul Salkovskis said it was "morally wrong" to claim this  therapy could cure complex mental illness rapidly in a single session by getting to the "root cause" in childhood

“The idea there is a single point, this crucial moment that everything stems from, is nonsense.  In terms of the current understanding of psychological problems like anxiety and depression ... it has absolutely no foundation in what we understand about these problems.”

Professor Paul Salkovskis:

Director of Oxford Health NHS Centre for Psychological Health, and Professor of Clinical Psychology at Oxford University,

Choosing the wrong training course can cost your time, effort and £1000s of pounds.
Also it is a lost opportunity that can impact your hope and self-belief.

Every year we see dozens of people who are pulled in
by the hype and chose the wrong course.

Don’t let that happen to you!
Get the understanding and knowledge to make the right decision.

Take our webinar and become street smart about hypnosis and these sorts of claims.

“The UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy (UKCHH) is a centre of excellence for evidence-based therapy. I have trained with the college for a number of years, and every course offered, and every member of their teaching staff are first class.

Somehow UKCHH manages to balance discussion of current scientific and clinical issues and findings, with practical, experiential learning, and personal reflection and growth. I cannot rate them highly enough.

“As a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, I highly recommend this course, because I know it will deeply enhance applied psychologists range of effective interventions across a wide variety of client issues.

It is also important to hold in mind that this course is so well crafted, that students with no prior knowledge of psychology and/or therapy, can take this course with the confidence that they will be given all the information that is required to become, with practice, competent cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapists.

Well done to the UKCHH team  team for all their hard work in developing and running this magnificent course."

“When I wanted a career change, I researched a lot of hypnotherapy practitioner courses and UKCHH highlighted itself as being the best, and did not disappoint.

I carried out the full online Level 4 Diploma as I worked full time. I was floored at how rich the content was, and how academically rigorous it was. The course is challenging, but that is exactly what I wanted. The quality of the teaching is phenomenal.

If you're interested in this qualification, I HIGHLY recommend UKCHH. The support system amongst the students as well is fantastic. The most genuine organisation I've been witness to in a long time. Thank you UKCHH."

FAQs

Who are we?

The UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy is a hypnotherapy training provider specialising in modern, evidence-based, cognitive-behavioural theory and practice.

Established in 2003, we have blazed the trail in evidence-based hypnotherapy training.

We've  provided thousands of people with evidence-based practitioner training, integrating the power of hypnosis with the science of CBT.
We give you a clear pathway to full professional accreditation and ongoing support, so the career you envision becomes your reality.

What is Hypno-CBT®?

At the College, we focus on the cognitive-behavioural approach to hypnotherapy and on our own special model of hypnosis combined with CBT and mindfulness, called Hypno-CBT®.

Hypno-CBT® is an integrative psychotherapy that draws on social, cognitive and behavioural psychology and psychotherapies with a modern approach to hypnosis. (Hint: we do not see hypnosis as trance!)

We also integrate wisdom and practices from the East: meditation, mindfulness and applied philosophy.
And a philosophical approach informed by both Greek Stoic philosophy (the basis of CBT) and existentialism.

Sometimes we call it an integration of the ancient (mindfulness & philosophy), the magical (hypnosis & imagination) and the scientific (CBT).

This allows therapists to have enormous skill and flexibility in the way they integrate hypnosis with other techniques.

Many people feel that while CBT can work amazingly well there is perhaps something missing. Hypno-CBT® joins the dots and fills the gaps - providing a truly coherent and integrative view of human functioning, stickiness/rigidity and growth/flexability.

You will find out more about Hypno-CBT® - how and why it works - in the webinar!

What does ‘evidence-based’ actually mean?

This means we take a scientific approach and what we teach is based on known models of human change/learning, backed up by clinical and experimental research.
Hypnosis is a serious research topic in psychology.  There are well over ten thousand academic papers on hypnosis and hypnotherapy, dedicated academic research journals and dedicated hypnosis research labs at major universities. Hypnosis is a HOT topic in cognitive neuroscience!
In our courses we look at both experimental research - that's research into how hypnosis works - and also clinical research - or what hypnosis can be used for.

We make it simple and understandable (just as you would for clients).

If you’ve taken or are taking a degree in psychology – then you’ll particularly love this course. (Because on many courses what they teach conflicts with much of modern psychology).

Remember:  if you’re looking for a new career, then your training is the foundation of your new business. You want that foundation to be solid, based on research and grounded in science.

Is it safe to do hypnotherapy online? Is it effective?

These are great questions! The answers are: yes and yes!

It is 100% safe and effective to learn and conduct hypnotherapy online. As we teach a non-state (non-trance) model of hypnotherapy, we do not endorse any ideas about getting 'stuck' in hypnosis (as it is not possible to do so!).  We teach hypnosis as self-hypnosis. We will explain more about this in the webinar.

Not only is it safe but it is very effective, Many research studies into online psychotherapy show that it is just as effective as in person therapy!  A key benefit of our training is you will learn how to do online therapy during the training - potentially reaching a worldwide market.

The power and Fascination of Hypnosis

HYPNOSIS, MEDITATION AND YOGA

There's fascinating connection between hypnosis and meditation  - and also with the classical yoga tradition.

While mindfulness is now very popular there is another type of meditation called "one pointed meditation" or "dhyana".  This is where we aim to achieve an "uninterrupted flow of attention" towards the object of meditation (e.g. a candle or a mantra etc). This one-pointed focused meditation is VERY similar to hypnosis - which is "focused attention on a positive idea".

Moreover an aim of meditation is also to bring about mental stillness and this is the goal of yoga.
"Yoga chitti vritti nirodhaha" - Patanjali, Sutra 2

"Yoga is the stilling of the turnings (thoughts) of the mind"

In the Hypno-CBT® approach we make use of brief moments of mental stillness to become more centred and present, to know ourselves  or who are when the mind has stopped chattering!  It's an intimate part of the hypnotic process - a momentary mental stillness that is then stopping of the discursive chattering mind and a chance to focus our mental energy and attention on the hypnotic suggestions.

HYPNOSIS AND THE PLACEBO RESPONSE
What's fascinating is the connection between hypnosis and the placebo response.

All medications are tested to ensure they aren't just eliciting a placebo response - the natural healing response of the body when we expect to get better because we believe we've been effectively treated (via pills or injections or surgery or therapy)

And everyone wants to get rid of the placebo response so they can see if their pill or injection really works.

However hypnosis actually is using the placebo response - instead of giving a pill with the implicit suggestion that you will get better.

We ask people to close their eyes, relax and imagine getting better and expect to get better.

Indeed during hypnosis we can even have them imagine taking a pill that will make them better!

And then they can imagine and be guided through all the beneficial changes they will experience from taking the pill

"Hypnosis is a non-deceptive mega-placebo"

- Professor Irving Kirsch

Join the webinar and learn how to use hypnosis and leverage "therapeutic expectancy"  - the placebo response!

Don’t make the mistake of choosing the wrong training!

Yes — there is plenty substandard training out there!

There are lots of entertaining and "amazing" trainings -  but as practitioner trainings they are not truly ‘fit for purpose’.
They simply do not fully equip you to be a therapist.

We know. We see them come to our courses to get retrained.
Every. Single. Year.

Don't end up choosing the wrong training and then having to take another training because your first training was not ‘fit for purpose’...

Take this free webinar and become an "informed consumer"!
Learn how to choose the right training. Don’t let the promotional hype and pseudoscience of the hypnotherapy marketplace suck you in!
