Dr William Sheate, PhD, MSc, Dip CBH, Dip SMRB

Dr William Sheate, PhD, MSc, Dip CBH, Dip SMRB
Dr William Sheate, PhD, MSc, Dip CBH, Dip SMRB

Dr William Sheate (Bill) originally trained as a biologist (in ecology) and then spent over 30 years working in environmental policy and decision-making, as a consultant, an environmental campaigner and for the last 20 years as an academic at Imperial College London.

He considers his academic qualifications – BSc (Hons) Biology (Ecology), MSc Environmental Technology, Diploma of Imperial College, PhD in Environmental Policy and Decision-making – and academic experience as highly relevant to becoming a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist – seeing similarities in problem solving and risk assessment models in his research areas and in the application of cognitive behavioural therapy.

Bill’s passion has always been the teaching and pastoral support of students and he’s spent many years supporting students often with severe personal difficulties through to completion of their course. Training with the UK College in 2016, he completed both the Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and the Diploma in Stress Management and Resilience Building. Bill sees CBH as a natural extension of this pastoral support, providing a very well equipped tool-kit for dealing with the common personal issues of stress, anxiety and doubt that arise in higher education.

As part of private practice – and in addition to one-to-one therapy – he runs tailor-made workshops (e.g. on self-hypnosis; mindfulness and relaxation) and a practical programme on Relaxation and Resilience, covering mindfulness, relaxation, stress management, assertiveness and personal problem solving skills – for the MSc Environmental Technology at Imperial College London, where he is Reader in Environmental Assessment, Core Course Director and Departmental Careers Advisor in the Centre for Environmental Policy. He also coordinates a Hypno-CBT® Peer Support Group on behalf of the UK College, for practitioners who have completed the Diploma.

Shelley Cushway, Dip CBH, Dip I Hyp Nlp

Shelley Cushway, Dip CBH, UK College Trainer
Shelley Cushway, Dip CBH, UK College Trainer

I have had a career spanning some 30 years in Human Resources and Recruitment where I have worked in some large corporate organisations and been lucky enough to head up some large teams of people.  During that time, I managed, trained and coached my own teams and benefitted from regular training in the field of coaching, consultancy and personal development.

In the latter part of my career I was beginning to make plans to move away from corporate life and embarked on a study programme in Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming, (NLP), Mindfulness and Meditation and Mindfulness at Work training, as well as formalising my coaching experience with study with the Institute of Leadership and Management.

I now have a private practice where I combine these approaches to help people with many issues from stress, anxiety, confidence building, self-esteem and resilience, business coaching, developing mindfulness practices and delivering mindfulness at work programmes.  Some of my clients simply want to overcome a tiresome fear or phobia.  I’ve also worked with clients who needed to focus for a particular sporting event, to channel the right mindset and behaviours.

I now balance my time between seeing clients in my private practice, teaching and coaching for the UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy and running corporate workshops focusing on stress management and wellbeing.
