Story of success – Vanessa version – Business Film Booth
Hear what Vanessa has to say about how her Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy allowed her to start a successful practice.
How I started my company
It's been four months since I qualified with the UK college and since then, obviously, I've created my company – I've had more than 120 individual client sessions with 40 different clients. For me, this has been such a change of lifestyle and so really has enriched my life to be able to go to work every morning and be able to help all of these people.
How do you use the training?
Well, I started developing a program that I can roll out into the corporate environment where I teach people to monitor their stress and to be able to relieve that stress.
What made you consider a career in hypnotherapy?
I discovered hypnosis at quite a difficult time in my life. It was very effective and at the time I was a PA in a very large structure for a CEO. I realised how many people are actually suffering from stress related issues and just weren't in a good place. And these people generally tended to gravitate towards me. So, I decided one day to have a midlife crisis and change careers!
How did the course enable you to start a career in hypnotherapy?
It's really, really complete. I mean, you work work on so many different levels. You start with just the hypnosis and then you go into the CBT. I mean, it really is layered and it's structured in such way that over time you're really gaining lots and lots of different skills. For me that is the beauty of the course – it's that you really leave with an immense toolbox that suits probably everybody's personalities as well, but I find the course really just gives every person a maximum amount of tools to be able to go out there and help people.
What makes you stand out as a therapist?
Well, because it's evidence-based, because the techniques that are used have been based on research that has been done. There's been, measurable results on the techniques that are used. You can substantiate with research, but you're giving some very tangible data to people saying, ‘Okay, we know that for stress-related issues, etc, we're going to get a certain percentage of improvement.'
