We are delighted to be hosting this fascinating series of webinars with Professor David Attard, a highly experienced psychotherapist extensively trained in Logotherapy and Existential Analysis, and former president of the European Association of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (EALEA).
The series begins with a free introductory webinar to Viktor Frankl's legacy, followed by three unique webinars looking at Logotherapy, existential analysis, integrated with cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, and applications to our daily lives, life crisis and “life pain”.
What is Logotherapy?
Logotherapy was created by Dr. Viktor Frankl (1905 – 1997), author of the bestseller Man’s Search for Meaning. Frankl was a Psychiatrist and Neurologist who treated suicidal patients before and after WWII.
Logotherapy is a school of psychology and a philosophy based on the idea that we are strongly motivated to live purposefully and meaningfully, and that we find meaning in life as a result of responding authentically and humanely to life’s challenges.
Logotherapy literally means therapy through meaning. Frankl believed that humans are motivated by something called a “will to meaning,” which corresponds to a desire to seek and make meaning in life
Frankl was imprisoned in four different concentration camps during the Holocaust for being Jewish. One day some fellow prisoners wanted to run into the electric fence in order to kill themselves. They felt there was nothing more they could expect from life. Frankl turned their statement around and said, “Do not ask what you expect from life; ask what life expects from you!” Frankl understood that it is not suffering itself that causes despair. Rather, if you feel you have nothing to give and no one to love, you have nothing to live for!
“Do not ask what you expect from life; ask what life expects from you!”
– Viktor Frankl
He believed that those that survived the horrors of the concentration camp were those had a “will to meaning” – a purpose.
Existential Analysis is an approach in psychotherapy which helps the individual achieve greater freedom through conscious perception and experience of the present moment (rather than the psychoanalytical focus on unconscious drives).
Free Webinar:
An Introduction to Viktor Frankl's Legacy
In this introductory webinar David shares knowledge he has gained from many years of research and clinical practice. He will cover the applications of Frankl's Logotherapy, and the notion that an individual flourishes when they are aligned with what's meaningful to them, as based on scientific research.
Through this therapeutic modality they can exhibit greater resilience and improved psychological wellbeing because they can be challenged through eliciting the “why” of their life, which propels them to live fully with passion and with stability. Such individuals learn to face life’s challenges with courage, hope, and optimism. Empirical evidence also shows us that many people feel lost without any purpose to guide them, highlighting the approach's importance.

Confronting Existential Crisis through Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (LTEA) with Hypno-CBT®
Thursday 10th February – 7pm to 9pm – GMT
with Professor David Attard
A major cause of depression is self-absorption. By drawing on a person’s strengths, the tools and techniques of Logotherapy can help bring about a profound shift in awareness, from a ‘victim’ mentality to a can-do challenging attitude. Clients and students of Logotherapy are invited to question themselves about what they really want and which kinds of choices will be most conducive to growth. By developing clarity of purpose and knowledge that we can choose – we can enable ourselves and our clients to face our crises with greater resilience, optimism and purpose.
In this webinar David shares the knowledge he has gained from many years of research and clinical practice and distills it into a packed discussion with theory, examples, tips, ideas, and the opportunity to develop the practical skills on your journey to integrate aspects of this modality into your work as a hypnotherapist in the Hypno-CBT® approach.
